About the full moon calendar

Times for the moon phases

The times are calculated with an accuracy of one minute.
The times are the exact time the phase happens astronomically.
A moon phase happens at the exact same time everywhere on earth. (Time and date varies only due to time differences between time zones.

New Moon

The time of the new moon is the exact time where the moon goes from waning to waxing.
The new moon is visible to the human eye after 10-18 hours.
The new moon is also the beginning of a new moon cycle.

First quarter

The first quarter is exactly when 50% of the waxing moon is illuminated.

Full moon

Full moon is the exact time where the moon is fully illuminated and goes from waxing to waning.

Last quarter

The last quarter is exactly when 50% of the waning moon is illuminated.

Waxing and waning moon, northern hemisphere.

If the right side of the moon is illuminated, then the moon is waxing.
If the left side of the moon is illuminated, then the moon is waning.
This is reversed on the southern hemisphere

Length of a moon cycle

A moon cycle lasts between 29.18 and 29.93 days
